Joining ZAFT on February 21, CE 68, Heine graduated from the ZAFT Academy as a Red coat. After the first Bloody Valentine War, Heine became a part of FAITH and one of the few selected that reported directly to the chairman. In SEED Destiny, Heine makes his first appearance in PHASE-19, though he isn't given much to do. He acts as an escort for that episode before he is assigned to Minerva to join Athrun.

However, his stay on Minerva doesn't last very long. During his first mission with the ship and its crew, he is cut down by Stellar Louisser when he gets between her and Kira Yamato after the Archangel decides to intervine.

As a person in general, Heine is an optimistic, but realistic soldier. He was never very ceremonious and was also quite talkative. Heine is usually able to raise the moral values of his comrades as well. Regarding himself an one of the elite, Heine is respected by both his superiors and sub-ordinates as a capable officer and pilot.
